Erucamide Antiblocking Agents

Description

Erucamide is a waxy, odorless solid with a long hydrocarbon chain and a polar amide group. This unique molecular structure endows it with excellent surface activity, high thermal stability, and long-lasting slip performance. It is insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone, and xylene, and is non-toxic and environmentally friendly, making it suitable for use in food contact materials such as containers and packaging films.

Mechanism of Action

Erucamide functions primarily as a slip and antiblocking agent through surface migration and friction reduction:

  • Surface Migration: When incorporated into polyolefin resins, erucamide migrates to the polymer surface, forming a thin lubricating layer. This layer effectively separates adjacent film surfaces, preventing sticking and blocking.
  • Friction Reduction: By lowering static and dynamic friction coefficients, erucamide facilitates smoother handling, processing, and packaging of films and sheets.

Applications

Erucamide antiblocking agent is a versatile additive widely used across polymers, inks, rubbers, and specialty materials for its superior slip and anti-blocking properties:

  • Polymer Films and Sheets
  • Applied in PP, CPP, BOPP, LDPE, LLDPE, EVA, PVC, PVDF, PVDC, and PU films.
  • It enhances slip, reduces static and dynamic friction, and prevents sticking in multilayer coextruded films, high-transparency agricultural films, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, and metallocene polyethylene.
  • It improves processing efficiency, handling, and packaging performance.
  • Ink Formulations
  • It acts as a lubricant and anti-blocking agent, preventing pigment and filler settling.
  • It enhances redisperibility, abrasion resistance, scratch resistance, and surface smoothness.
  • It minimizes sticking in multi-color and overprint processes, ensuring higher-quality prints.
  • Rubber Compounds
  • Used in SBE, SBP, SBR, and PP rubbers to improve gloss, anti-soiling, elongation, wear resistance, and vulcanization efficiency.
  • It provides UV resistance, preventing sunlight-induced cracking and prolonging product lifespan.
  • Thermoplastics and Specialty Materials
  • It functions as a mold release agent and surface lubricant in TPE, TEO, TPU, and fluororubbers.
  • It enhances lubrication, wear resistance, and surface smoothness in engineering plastics, LDPE-calendered artificial leather, fibers, nonwovens, and ABS graphite fiber composites.
  • It serves as an anti-blocking agent in hot-melt adhesives and high-durability materials such as PA components, gears, seals, and bushings.

Storage and Handling

  • Non-hazardous and safe to handle.
  • Store in a cool, dry place, protected from sunlight and moisture during storage and transportation.

Our erucamide antiblocking agent is a high-performance polymer additive that provides excellent slip, anti-blocking, and surface lubrication for films, sheets, rubbers, inks, and specialty materials. Feel free to contact us for more information, technical support, or custom solutions.
